This 1940 Ford Deluxe business coupe underwent a gradual refurbishment over the course of approximately two decades, including a repaint in Mandarin Maroon. The car is powered by a 221ci flathead V8 mated to a three-speed manual transmission, and it is also equipped with tan vinyl upholstery over a front bench seat and two rear jump seats. Additional equipment includes body-color 16″ steel wheels, hydraulic drum brakes, dual side mirrors, an AM radio, turn signals, and dual taillights. This 1940 Ford coupe was acquired by the selling dealer in 2025 and is now offered in Zephyr Cove, Nevada, at no reserve with refurbishment records and a clean California title.
The selling dealer states that the car was stripped to bare metal and repainted Mandarin Maroon over a period of 20 years prior to 2005. Subsequent work included replacing the trunk handle, bumper brackets, dual windshield wipers, dual side mirrors, radio antenna, and dual taillights. Paint damage around the fuel filler can be viewed in the gallery.
Body-color 16″ steel wheels wear chrome trim rings and Ford Deluxe-script hubcaps, and they are mounted with Firestone wide-whitewall tires. Braking is provided by four-wheel hydraulic drums. Work since 2005 has included overhauling the brakes and replacing the shocks, tires, hubcaps, and trim rings.
The cabin features a front bench seat upholstered in tan vinyl, which extends to the two rear jump seats that were installed circa 2006. Interior appointments include a rebuilt AM radio, front seat lap belts, a replacement glovebox with a clock in its door, and replacement knobs, handles, and buttons. The wiring harness was also replaced.
The replacement steering wheel sits ahead of rebuilt gauges and a repainted dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 9k miles, approximately 255 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown. Auxiliary gauges have been added beneath the dashboard.
The 221ci flathead V8 was factory rated at 85 horsepower and 155 lb-ft of torque. Included records are said to detail a rebuilt starter and distributor as well as a new starter solenoid, radiator, upper radiator hoses, hood arm and spring support, air cleaner, and voltage regulator. The carbuetor was refreshed in 2023, at which time the engine oil, fuel filter, coils, and battery cable were replaced.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed manual transmission that was reportedly rebuilt in the 2000s with a new shaft, cluster, gears, and synchros. The clutch, pressure plate, and throw-out bearing are said to date to 2013.
